Introducing my adoptable board & train, Nova, to Bailey, a small fluffy pup. With Nova’s strong prey drive, it’s crucial we take things slow. Before allowing any off-leash interactions, I’m guiding Nova to relax and learn that Bailey isn’t prey. This helps set the stage for positive future interactions and teaches her what appropriate social behavior looks like. It’s all about building trust and understanding! If you have a reactive or under socialized pup, reach out! I’d be more than happy to help.

Introducing your dog to an e-collar? Start slow and positive! 🐾✨ My first experience was different—it involved a compulsion-based trainer who just stimulated the dog until they submitted. While it may bring quick results, it can lead to a shut-down pup with no real understanding of how to respond to the e-collar. I believe in teaching my dogs to feel the collar and know exactly what to do based on their understanding of commands, rather than just relying on it as a ‘no’ button. It’s a slow & delicate process that requires more finesse than simply pushing a button until your dog complies. This was Nova’s first walk with the e-collar but we spent several days conditioning the tool with plenty of food inside my home before ever going for a walk. If you’re curious about e-collar training for your dog but don’t know where to start, I’d be happy to help!

Over time, we’ll rely more on the leash for communication, but for now, we’re maximizing its value with plenty of treats. If your dog is food motivated, don’t hesitate to use it to enhance their training experience.

Prong collars can be highly effective tools when used correctly, but for many dogs that struggle with basic leash pressure, the prong becomes a bandaid solution. In my training, I always assess each dog’s understanding of leash communication first. Here you can see Nova responding beautifully to the slip lead, demonstrating she doesn’t need the added pressure of a prong collar at this time. Remember, every dog is unique—some may thrive with a prong, while others do just fine with a simple slip lead!
